Over de spreker
I am a transgender rights activist, development professional, and the Executive Director of Sub Rang Society in Pakistan. I am also the founder and co-organizer of the Hijra Festival, a community-led platform that celebrates identity, resilience, and cultural expression of transgender communities in Pakistan.
For over 15 years, I have been working at the intersection of human rights, gender, and HIV/AIDS, advocating for the dignity, inclusion, and protection of transgender and gender-diverse communities. My work bridges grassroots realities with policy advocacy, contributing to national transgender protection legislation and provincial policy processes.
I have led community-based initiatives focused on mental health, gender-based violence, and access to essential services, while amplifying marginalized voices through film, art, and storytelling. Internationally, I have represented Pakistan across platforms in countries including Thailand, Sweden, the United States, and the Netherlands.
As a Ex UN Women’s Civil Society Advisory Group and curator of the Aks International Minorities Film Festival, I continue to connect local voices with global movements, working towards a more inclusive, just, and equitable world.
