Mathendu Muchoki is a Kenyan filmmaker, content creator, and Head of Communications at Bold Network Africa, dedicated to telling authentic stories of queer Africans. With a degree in International Relations, he brings a unique perspective to storytelling, creating safe and inclusive spaces for queer individuals to engage and connect. Mathendu curates the OUT Film Festival, celebrating queer films and queer life across the continent, often in contexts of censorship. His work includes a mini-documentary for the Queer African Network and the mobile phone short film Kitu Kigeni, a runner-up in the 2022 Bomoaukuta competition. Drawing from diverse narratives and personal experiences navigating queer identity, Mathendu amplifies queer voices to show that queer people love, cry, and laugh just like anyone else. An alumnus of the Some Fine Day Pix filmmaking workshop, his short film Bikey, which explores grief and queer identity, is currently on its festival run.
