About the spreaker
Essy Adhiambo, is the Executive Director of Initiative for Equality and Non Discrimination(INEND), an LBQ led organisation based in Mombasa,Kenya that promote human rights of sexual and gender minorities. Previoulsy, she led the development of a training program and blue print for sensitising religous leaders on compassion and love, the facing our fears  project saw the most homophobic leaders in Mombasa, turning to work with LGBTIQ+ persons. Essy has engaged with the judiciary, police, media, and well known perpertrators of violence the boda boda operators in shifting norms and changing attitudes. Essy is a fellow of the Human Rights Advicates Program at Columbia Univerity(2014), She was featured in the HIVOS bold and powerful women for change: East Africa Campaign(2017)Upinde Awards Shujaa Nominee(2017), Human Rights Defender of the year nominee(2017)Winner Upinde Awards, Shujaa category (2022)
