About the spreaker
Alex Greenwich is the Independent Member for Sydney in the New South Wales Parliament. He lead Australia’s successful marriage equality campaign including as the Co-Chair of the successful YES campaign that won a national-wide public vote on the reform.  In 2023, he introduced the LGBTIQA+ Equality Bill to remove outdated and discriminatory laws in New South Wales. The Bill passed Parliament in 2024 with key reforms taking effect from 1 July 2025. These include updated gender recognition laws, protections against hate crimes and  outing people, and legal recognition of parents through overseas surrogacy. Alex was the driving force behind the nation-leading NSW LGBTQ Health Strategy, and he secured multi-partisan support to ban LGBTQ conversion therapy in NSW. In 2024, Greenwich received the Commonwealth-wide Parliamentarian of the Year award recognising his work on LGBTQ+ rights, women's reproductive rights , and voluntary assisted dying.
