About the spreaker
Jazzelle Bonilla is a dedicated public health professional with more than seven years of experience serving LGBTQ+ communities through research, sexual health education, outreach, and program management. She began her career at the University of Rochester’s Rochester Victory Alliance, where she worked in HIV vaccine research specializing in outreach, recruitment, and retention. Her work focused on increasing participation among Black, Brown, and LGBTQ+ communities while addressing historical mistrust of healthcare systems and reducing stigma surrounding HIV prevention research.
Prior to relocating to San Francisco, Jazzelle served as a Community Health Specialist at Trillium Health in Upstate New York, where she provided STI testing, coordinated community events, and expanded access to health education and resources for LGBTQ+ individuals.
Currently, Jazzelle serves as a Program Manager at Trans: Thrive, where she has spent nearly two years developing and leading programs that support the health and well-being of transgender and gender-diverse communities. Her work focuses on sexual health education for trans youth and Black and BIPOC transgender individuals, while also overseeing the iDrop-In Center—a welcoming and affirming space where community members can access resources, build connections, and thrive as their authentic selves.
Driven by a passion for health equity, community empowerment, and culturally responsive care, Jazzelle remains committed to creating pathways for underserved communities to access the support, education, and healthcare they deserve.
