About the spreaker
Njeri Damali Sojourner-Campbell is an award-winning human rights lawyer, writer, and community builder based in Toronto, Canada.  Njeri holds an undergraduate degree in Political Science and Sociology and a Master's degree in Education. Her graduate research focused on decolonial education at the intersections of sexual orientation and race. In 2014, she obtained her Juris Doctor (law degree) and in 2015 was called to the Ontario Bar. She currently practices law as a partner at Canada's largest labour and employment boutique law firm. She is the first Black queer female lawyer to practice at her firm, and the first Black female partner in her firm's history. Njeri believes in the transformative power of legal professionals and is committed to equity and mentorship within the legal profession in Canada and around the world. She is the founder of the UJIMA Mentorship Circle, an intergenerational space for Black law students and legal professionals who identify as women, nonbinary or transgender. Njeri is an avid reader and literary critic. She reviews Black speculative fiction, Afrofuturism, Africanfuturism and Afro-surrealism on social media, with a focus on queer futurist narratives. She is recognized as a thought leader and community builder within these genres.  Her YouTube channel, ONYX Pages engages 10,000+ subscribers globally. In 2020, she created and led the first and only international slow-read of Octavia E. Butler's entire works, a project that engaged over 1000 readers worldwide. Njeri identifies as a Black, queer, cisgender woman. She lives in Toronto with her wife Tomee Elizabeth Sojourner-Campbell and many, many books. Follow her at @OnyxPages
