About the spreaker
Imasha Perera is a trans rights activist, labour organiser, and community leader based in Colombo, Sri Lanka. As an organiser with the Abhimana Workers Union, she works to advance dignity, safety, and equality for trans and queer workers by strengthening collective organising and promoting more inclusive workplaces. She was the former convener for Abhimana Workers Union, a trans and queer-led trade union established through support from Rainbow Network FNV, representing trans and queer workers in seafaring, ports, transport, logistics, and platform work. Imasha has played a leading role in strengthening grassroots leadership among LGBTQIA+ workers, coordinating trainings, consultations, and support systems for union members. Alongside her labour activism, she works closely with government and healthcare stakeholders to advocate for stronger inclusion, improved healthcare access, and safer environments for LGBTQIA+ communities.
