About the spreaker
Zita Pels is Deputy Mayor of Amsterdam, responsible for Housing, Housing Development, Asylum and Reception, and the Zuidoost Master Plan. Since becoming Deputy Mayor in 2022, she has led initiatives to expand affordable housing, improve housing quality, and strengthen the city's response to the housing crisis. Before entering executive office, Pels built her career as a teacher, director of the Kyra Foundation, entrepreneur and in regional government. She is committed to building an inclusive and resilient city where everyone has access to safe housing, equal opportunities, and the freedom to be themselves.
