About the spreaker
Dr. Nout van Woudenberg LL.M. has held various positions within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands since 1993. He is currently the Unit Coordinator for ‘Accountability for Ukraine’. In this role, he supports, among other things, Ukraine’s efforts to strengthen the resilience and capacity of its law enforcement sector in order to combat impunity for international wrongful acts. From 2020 to 2025, Dr. van Woudenberg served as Deputy Ambassador at the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Central Asia in Astana, Kazakhstan. He has written about this period in his book ‘As a Pink Diplomat in Kazakhstan’ (‘Als Roze Diplomaat in Kazachstan’), in which he describes the life he and his husband lived in Kazakhstan as #husbandandhusband, how they sought to strengthen the resilience of the queer community in Central Asia, and how the Embassy put the Netherlands’ human rights priority “Equal Rights for LGBTIQ+ people” into practice.
