Michael O'Flaherty is the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights, a position he has held since April 2024. He previously directed the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights and served as a member of the United Nations Human Rights Committee. A scholar and author on international human rights law, he led the drafting of the 2006 Yogyakarta Principles on sexual orientation and gender identity.
