Description

This Outright International workshop frames the global rise of anti-trans laws and policies, such as bans on gender-affirming care and efforts to enshrine sex/gender binaries into national law and UN language, as direct attacks on trans, intersex, and queer identity, culture, and visibility. These policies reflect an authoritarian playbook seeking to erase diverse gender expressions from public life and collective memory. Following a panel featuring activists who are working to document threats and promote gender liberation, interactive breakout groups will explore protecting heritage, analyzing authoritarian threats, and practicing counter-narratives to defend trans, intersex, and queer people’s rights and cultural legacies.
